AIRDRIE LIBRARY CENTENARY CELEBRATIONS

On Thursday, 25th September, the Library celebrates its 100th Anniversary in its current building.

Time Capsule

The Librarian, Katie McGrath has been working on a school’s initiative called “A Time Travellers’ guide to Libraries”  with Victoria and All Saints Primary Schools.

As part of this project the children examined the past and present of Airdrie being encouraged to design what they imagine the future of Airdrie will look like.

As a neighbour to the Library, we were asked if the time capsule could be buried in our grounds under the cherry tree at the entrance and next to the library.  The Kirk Session were happy to give permission.

As a result of this, we have been given the opportunity to also participate in the exercise and have been given a small time capsule to fill and be buried at the same time.  This comes at an opportune moment when we too are celebrating in a smaller way.   It gives us a chance to provide information about the congregation and our work to the children and citizens of Airdrie in the future.

Events arranged for the day include the following at –

10:30 a.m.  - time capsule burial with the children, yourselves and Cllr Logue.  We then go into the Immersive Room to view the film made about the Time Travellers project.  Tea, scones and birthday cake is had!

12:00 Noon - Ross Mitchell recites his poem all about the library and the town. Places are limited, so if you wish to attend – please give your name to David Walker.

HARVEST THANK OFFERING

The Kirk Session has decided that our charity for this year will be World Vision UK

Together, we can make a difference for children living in the world’s hardest places – children facing poverty, hunger, conflict and the devastating effects of climate change. By joining in partnership, we can help bring hope, safety and a brighter future to millions of young lives.

Included with you order of service today is a small leaflet giving details of the work of World Vision – where they work, what their objectives are and how they see the future.

Your Harvest Thank-Offering envelope is also included.  Please return this to the church on or before Sunday 5th October 2025.
