HARVEST THANK OFFERING -

Started by the World Council of Churches in the 1980s, the 'Thursdays in Black' campaign is a form of peaceful protest against violence and rape especially that which takes place during wars and conflicts. The focus of the campaign is to challenge attitudes that cause rape and violence. You are encouraged to dress in black on Thursdays to mark your support for gender justice all over the world.

The International Justice Mission (IJM) works to combat violence against women and children in Guatemala, Bolivia, El Salvador, Kenya, Colombia, Peru and Uganda and has been supported by The Guild in the past.

This is the charity that we will be supporting this year for our Harvest Thank Offering.

The minister will be available to receive donations on Saturday, 30th September in the Session Room.  Your envelope for your Harvest Thank Offering donation is enclosed.

You can bring your donation along either on Saturday or Sunday.

For more information on Black Thursday and IJM two links can be found below.

DEMISSION OF THE MINISTER

While Robbie does not demit his ministry at The New Wellwynd until 21st October, he will lead Worship for the last time as minister on Sunday, 8th October, concluding 22 years’ faithful service amongst us.

At the conclusion of that service there will be a presentation to both Robbie and Carol.

In order for members to say a personal and individual farewell to Robbie and Carol, there will be an informal farewell reception in the halls on Thursday, 12th October between 7 and 9 pm at which finger food and drinks will be served.

If you are able to attend this reception, please add your name to the lists available in the entrance vestibule or on the table near the organ console as you go through to the hall.

“To date £790 donations have been received from supporters of Liz and Maureen‘s participation in the Kiltwalk Big Stroll from Musselburgh to Murrayfield. We were so glad to join in this huge event and to know, we were part of a group of twenty Christian Aiders who have so far raised over £3,500 which will be used to support those who need it most. Many thanks to all contributors”.                                                            [LIZ RIDDELL]
